The 2008 Decorah Time Trials will be held Sunday, April 27. This will be the 18th year we have put on MTB time trials in the Decorah park system, and there will be a couple of changes. First of all, there will not be a single speed class. We initiated the SS class in 2001 in an effort to promote SS cycling. Well if you haven’t noticed, there is no shortage of SS riders any more. SS riders have proven they can hold their own with any one on our trail system, and no longer need special consideration. Second, we will no longer be having a first timer class. Our philosophy with the Time Trials has been to try to include as many different types of riders as possible and recognize their achievements at the awards ceremony. We got tired of these folks not sticking around for the awards. Obviously it was not very important to them, and it means less work for us on an already busy day. Third, for the first time since we started MTB racing in the early 80’s in NE Iowa, I will not be setting up the race course. A lot of people had a lot of good ideas, and I felt it was time to give them a chance to try some of them out. So, look for something different at the Time Trials in 2008.
